20 September 2006  Website offers senior travel insurance tips
As part of its investigation into travel insurance over 65, a price comparison website has offered a number of tips to the mature traveller to take into account when buying their OAP travel insurance.

The website advised older holidaymakers to ensure they notify their insurer about pre-existing medical conditions, to check their age on the return date of travel and to speak to a doctor before flying out and receive all necessary medication in advance.

It also recommended that travellers exercise on flights and drink water regularly to reduce the risk of dehydration, in addition to informing the cabin crew of any serious conditions.

Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Many older travellers may have some form of pre-existing medical condition and this should definitely not put them off arranging insurance before travelling since the risks are just too great.

"Failure to disclose a pre-existing condition may mean an insurer refuses to pay out if a claim looks to be linked to this."

The British Insurance Brokers' Association has in the past outlined the difficulties holidaymakers often find looking for adequate travel insurance over 65.
