09 June 2006  Travellers warned about hurricane season
Travellers to the Caribbean have urged to ensure they have adequate travel insurance in order to avoid losing out in the forthcoming hurricane season.

With tourist figures for Caribbean destinations rising by an estimated 13 per cent to 20.5 million, increasing numbers of travellers of all ages, many of whom will be covered by senior travel insurance, are choosing the islands for their holidays.

However, experts have warned that storm activity in the region is increasing, which could threaten holidaymakers abroad.

The Telegraph reports that climate change could create "a warmer world, which could cause hurricanes to become more intense and to last longer".

It adds that "it is also probable that the hurricane season will, in future, start earlier and finish later".

Hurricanes often measure around 500 miles or more across and can stretch 50 miles in radius causing devastating effects to properties and homes.

Mature holidaymakers, who are increasingly heading to the Caribbean, might wish to take travel insurance for over 65-year-olds, which caters particularly for the older traveller.
