18 November 2006  Travellers offered audio DVT-prevention tips
Holidaymakers concerned about the threat of contracting deep-vein thrombosis (DVT), including those with senior travel insurance, may want to make use of a podcast featuring directions for exercises that may help prevent instances of the condition.

Ames Walker has uploaded the MP3 of the exercises on a new website, alongside other information on preventing the forming of blood clots during long periods of air travel.

Paul Amatangelo, co-owner and executive vice president, marketing and sales for Ames Walker International, reported that it is a misconception that DVT is more likely to affect those in poor general health and the elderly, who may be flying with OAP travel insurance.

"While those suffering with poor circulation either independently or related to diabetes or other ailments are very much at risk, recent science is indicating that those in better than average health, for instance, marathon runners are at great risk."

In the past, American Express Travel Insurance reported that 56 per cent of men did exercises designed to prevent contraction of DVT on long-haul flights, compared to 72 per cent of women.
