07 March 2007  Spain tops Cornwall for the over 50s
A list of the ten most popular destinations among the over 50s sees package holidays in Spain top the chart.

In contrast the highest ranking English resort of Cornwall manages only eighth in the list compiled by the Millennium agency, beaten by Scotland, Tenerife and the USA.

Occupying fourth place in the chart of the favourite holiday destinations of the over 50s is Australia, as many Britons in their retirement years head across the ocean in order to stay warm in winter by seeking out the sun down under.

"The relative popularity of making the long trip down under and visits to the States enforces the fact that the over 50s are keen to travel long distances," commented Sarah Robson, research director at the company.

She added that older people enjoying their retirement tend to have greater disposable income than they used to which enables the over 50s to plan big holidays such as cruises and long-haul trips.

Meanwhile, AWD Money Extra advises holidaymakers to shop around when buying travel insurance over 65 in order to find a policy "tailor-made to your needs".
