22 June 2007  Spain and France 'popular for retirees'
Spain and France are still proving popular destinations for retirement, suggesting senior travel insurance could be an idea for anyone thinking of travelling to look at potential properties.

Paul Collins, overseas property editor for property website BuyAssociation, said that while up and coming areas such as Bulgaria are becoming more tempting as their infrastructure improves, the old favourites are still just that.

"It's still very much the traditional destinations [which are favourites to retire to], where people are buying overseas property anyway - Spain, France, Portugal are very much the leading countries," Mr Collins said.

"Certainly in places like Spain and France the health service is at least as good as it is in the UK."

Areas such as Spain and France also offering good climates and a slower pace of life and according to Mr Collins, this is what many retirees look for, as it "helps with the aching bones".

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office website offers a travel checklist of things to do before you go and after you arrive if considering a move abroad.
