27 April 2007  Southampton opens new cruise terminal
The Port of Southampton, the primary point in the UK from which cruise liners set sail, has announced the opening of its upgraded City Cruise Terminal following a £9 million investment.

British holidaymakers embarking from the port will be able to make use of the wider entrance lobby at the terminal, which also features a larger reception area and improved security.

Doug Morrison, port director of the Port of Southampton at Associated British Ports, said: "The ongoing revival of Southampton's cruise business is a triumph, not just for us and our partners but also for the maritime culture of the city of Southampton."

He added that the port was expecting to see 800,000 passengers on cruise liners going through the port over the coming year.

In May 2006, senior travel insurance provider Halifax reported that 45 per cent of men and 43 per cent of women consider a cruise to be a part of their dream holiday.
