01 August 2006  Senior travellers face paying double insurance costs
A call for cheaper senior travel insurance premiums has been raised after new research has revealed that nearly all insurance premiums for travellers aged over 65 jump in price by over 100 per cent.

The survey of travel insurance providers by moneysupermarket exposed the need for more competitive deals for mature travellers.

Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket, said: "This pricing structure for senior travellers is unnecessarily punitive.

"Insurers should do more to provide reasonable rates for this growing market. Older people should not be penalised for going abroad and should be able to find affordable travel insurance."

Mr Mason added that senior travellers, especially those with exisiting medical conditions, should not be put off from buying travel insurance, as the risks are too great.

Those looking to buy travel insurance over 65 should also ensure they read the small print to ensure they comply with the policy conditions and although organisations such as Age Concern may offer special deals for older people, it is still worth comparing these quotes too.

moneysupermarket currently offers its customers over 1200 travel insurance policies.
