17 March 2006  Senior travel insurance advised for overseas weddings
More elderly relatives may find themselves forking out for trips to attend overseas weddings, new research has suggested.

Although previous generations may have been content with the traditional church or registry office wedding, a growing number of young couples are choosing to marry overseas.

Roughly a quarter of all British couples marrying in the last two years did so in a foreign country, spending a total of £1.8 billion, research by Direct Line Home Insurance has revealed.

For those asked to attend the wedding, extra considerations must be taken into account, including senior travel insurance.

"Affordable airfares, a sense of adventure and the drudgery of British weather mean that overseas weddings are more popular than they have ever been," commented Simon Ziviani of Direct Line.

With the rise of cheaper airfares and inexpensive travel insurance for over 65s, attending overseas weddings is becoming more of an affordable reality.

Grandparents and other elderly relatives who may at first have dismissed the idea of going overseas can go abroad with the piece of mind that OAP travel insurance provides.
