14 July 2006 Savings are in the details for mature travellers
Holidaymakers and elderly travellers are being urged to ensure they ask the right questions when purchasing travel insurance over 65, according to a recent report.
According to specialist insurer for the over-50s, RIAS, many people will choose their travel insurance policy on price alone however consumers need to be aware of what they are actually being covered for.
RIAS reports that some insurance companies vary the features of their policies to individualise their core products making it difficult for customers to make fair comparisons.
Managing director of RIAS, Janet Connor, said: "Travel insurance, particularly for the over-50s, should very much be viewed as an essential purchase in a similar way to arranging your currency.
"It is essential to be familiar with the terms of the policy in order to know exactly what you are paying for and what cover you are getting."
Ms Connor added that for over-50s purchasing travel insurance, because they often need to take pre-existing medical conditions into consideration, these factors are of particular importance.
RIAS, which was established in 1992, is a specialist provider of insurance products for the over-50s age group and offers travel insurance cover for travellers up to the age of 89.
