05 October 2006 Retirees want to travel abroad
Increasing numbers of UK pensioners may need to purchase travel insurance over 65, as the majority of retirees want to travel abroad, according to a report by a housebuying firm.
National Homebuyers has quoted the results of a poll by Clerical Medical, noting that 30 per cent of pensioners can conceive of retiring abroad, with eight out of ten wanting to take holidays overseas, which may require senior travel insurance.
Discussing this trend, Julian King, director of National Homebuyers, commented: "With the retirement age rising, we understand that more and more people want to live their final years in the sun."
On the possibility of pensioners releasing equity in their homes by selling and then renting their houses back, he added that this will give retirees the chance to "travel the world and see places they'd only every dreamed of, while being safe in the knowledge they have a house to go home to".
Earlier this year, Scottish Widows claimed that 13 per cent of retirees looking towards equity release would spend the money on a holiday, with 21 per cent stating that they would use the money to help their families instead.
