16 March 2007  Project gets new funding for elderly care homes
Help the Aged has announced that its scheme designed to boost the quality of life of workers and elderly people living in British care homes has received a donation from a health insurance firm.

Bupa has given the charity £270,000 towards its My Home Life - Quality of Life In Care Homes project, which was launched last year.

This money will be used in the development of a learning and practice network for UK care homes where resources are shared to aid in the improvement of skills by care home employees.

Annie Stevenson, senior policy advisor at Help the Aged, said: "The aim of My Home Life is to kick-start a culture change in care homes where quality of life is lacking and encourage a change of perception to draw quality people to work with older people."

She added that there is a direct correlation between the treatment of social care workers and the quality of care experienced by residents.

Earlier this week, the charity reported that pensioners could face low income issues if the current system of funding for care does not change with transforming social demographics.
