26 June 2007  'One in four' older Britons intend to move home when retired
Almost a quarter of Britons aged over 50 intend to move home when they retire, it has been claimed, while this age range is more likely to move home during July than any other month in the year.

Recent research from senior travel insurance specialist Saga reveals that 24 per cent of over-50s plan on moving house when they retire, with the desire to live in a smaller home nearer family members driving these changes.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of the company, said: "We can see that family is a key influencer on where future retirees will migrate to, but we can also get a sense of just how people plan to spend their retirement."

He noted that a good social network and improved shopping opportunities can be crucial factors when older Britons choose a new place to live.

In April 2007, Defaqto reported that the equity release market in the UK is entering a key stage, with an increasing importance resulting from factors including underfunded pensions and high levels of equity.
