29 August 2007 Older Britons 'in a better position' to enjoy first-class travel
As the summer holidays continue, it has been claimed that older Britons are in a better position than their younger counterparts to enjoy the luxury of first-class travel.
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) reports that the over-50s are financially better off than many other age groups, affording them the opportunity to fly first class and stay in more expensive hotels.
Sean Tipton, a press officer for the association, said: "They can afford to go business class, first class ... a lot of people can't necessarily do that, but they can - and they do."
He added that some older Britons are making the most of the increase in house prices to cash in on the value of their home and travel the world.
Last summer, senior travel insurance provider RIAS reported that around 775,000 older Britons have taken extended trip of six months or more abroad, with two thirds of these people opting for long-haul destinations.
