22 March 2007  New initiative 'to boost access to OAP travel insurance'
A new task force has been set up by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to improve access to senior travel insurance for older Britons.

The ABI reports that while travel insurance over 65 is widely available, a minority of elderly Britons have difficulties in gaining access to such policies.

Included on the taskforce are members of the ABI, alongside representatives from the British Insurance Brokers' Association, Citizens Advice and elderly charities Help the Aged and Age Concern.

Stephen Haddrill, director general of the ABI, said: "ABI research shows four out of five older people can buy [senior travel insurance] without difficulty.

"But more can still be done."

He added that the task force would consult with a number of organisations in order to establish a system that best helps elderly Britons seek out senior travel insurance

Last year, elderly travel insurance provider Saga reported that an increasing number of older Britons are heading abroad on adventure holidays.
