30 March 2007  New hotel offers 'the real Sicily'
Britons travelling to the Italian island of Sicily may be interested in booking a stay at a newly opened five-star luxury hotel in the north-eastern part of the region.

The Hilton Portorosa is nine storeys tall with 263 rooms and large conference facilities, featuring the tourist port Portorosa Marina on one side and a private beach on the other.

Describing the unveiling of the hotel as an "exciting step" for the company, Hilton reports that Sicily is becoming the most recent addition to the list of destinations for experienced travellers to Europe.

Luigi Sorge, hotel general manager, described the location of the hotel and the nature of its hospitality as being part of "the real Sicily".

"The hotel's proximity to Mount Etna, the Aeolian Islands, the Sanctuary, the Greek Theatre of Tindari and Taormina makes it a destination where culture and work can go hand in hand with fun and relaxation," he said.

Last November, senior travel insurance provider Saga reported that 14 per cent of older Britons chose Italy as their favoured destination for a holiday romance.
