05 April 2007  Millions of Britons seek sunshine over Easter
Millions of Britons, including those with OAP travel insurance, will head abroad to escape the variable British weather during the Easter bank holiday weekend in search of sunny weather, it has been claimed.

The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) reports that a record 2.5 million Britons will travel to destinations including the Canary Islands and Tenerife to take advantage of warm temperatures, while others look to Florida and the Caribbean.

Justin Fleming, president of Abta, said: "Easter has always been very busy for our members, but this year has surprised everyone."

He added that the option of travelling abroad over Easter is now a realisable ambition for most people in Britain.

Earlier this year, senior travel insurance provider Saga reported that Spain is a popular choice for older Britons looking to buy a holiday home as a result of the country's lower property prices, reduced cost of living and sunny weather.
