08 September 2006  Glasgow tops poll of UK cities
Holidaymakers, including mature members of the public armed with a suitcase, suncream and elderly travel insurance, are heading to Glasgow, which has come first in a list of UK destinations.

The largest city in Scotland headed up the poll for Best UK City in a travel magazine, based on questions regarding food, entertainment and accommodation.

Celebrity writers, including top chefs, wrote to American magazine Conde Nast Traveller, stating that the city has fared well due to its mix of friendly people and vibrant culture.

Alex Mason, chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, commented: "Winning an award of this calibre is testament to the incredible progress made in changing visitor perceptions of the city since the launch of the Glasgow: Scotland with style campaign in March 2004."

Glasgow prides itself on the array of art galleries, cafes, bars and music venues it has to offer.

In September alone, it will be hosting a whisky festival and a guide to its buildings called Doors Open Day.

Popular among younger people and senior members of the public, who can purchase elderly travel insurance to cover their domestic trip, the city has mix of attractions suitable for all.
