09 February 2007  France 'most popular destination' in 2006
The most popular country among holidaymakers across the world is France, such as those with senior travel insurance, according to data from its tourism ministry.

With the majority of its visitors travelling from Europe, France is the most visited country in the world for the second year in a row as it saw 78 million holidaymakers take a trip there last year.

According to Assetz, the number of visitors to France in 2006 increased by 2.7 per cent from the previous year and brought in total revenues of ?34 billion (£22 billion).

The southern region of Languedoc-Roussillon remains one of the most popular French resorts among tourists and is also seen by some property experts as a hotspot for investment.

"It is anticipated that 30 per cent more people will move to the Languedoc region over the next 20 years so for potential capital growth, anything in this region makes a sensible buy," commented Trisha Mason, managing director of VEF French Property.

Meanwhile, the French tourist office also announced recently that the deluxe Radisson Grand Hotel in Bordeaux is set to open in April this year following significant restoration works and will be the first in the area to offer spa treatments to visitors, including those with OAP travel insurance.
