06 April 2006 Elderly travellers search for insurance
The advice for mature travellers and those looking to purchase travel insurance over 65 is to plan well ahead and go online to get the best deals, according to a representative of Age Concern Scotland.
Official projections calculated by the Government Actuary's Department state that by 2025 there will be more over 60s than under 25s.
However, tracking down good senior travel insurance can still be a difficult process.
Age Concern is one of the few insurers for mature travellers which does not have an upper age limit however.
Spokesman for Age Concern Scotland, Mr Borthwick, said: "An arbitrary cut-off point is unfair and discriminatory, and there is a strong element of that running through the insurance companies.
"What I would say is that if a pensioner over 75 is planning an overseas trip in the summer, they should start looking now for reasonable insurance."
