19 March 2007  Elderly 'face considerable travel insurance disadvantage'
Older holidaymakers in Briton are experiencing significant difficulty in finding senior travel insurance, it has been claimed, with many unsuccessful in their attempts to get a quote from insurance firms.

A joint report from charities Age Concern and Help the Aged found that a quarter of those aged over 75 and a fifth of those over 65 looking for OAP travel insurance or other policies were unsuccessful in their search for a quote.

Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern, said: "This report clearly shows the extent and scope of the injustices older people are facing in access to insurance."

He described the situation as unacceptable and noted that with an increasingly ageing population, it would be at their "peril" if firms did not provide suitable travel insurance over 65 and other policies aimed at older Britons.

In April 2005, insuresupermarket.com reported that the elderly could save up to £1,500 each year by shopping around for cheaper insurance policies.
