15 November 2006  Cheapest travel insurance 'often not best'
Holidaymakers purchasing packaged travel insurance from their travel providers, such as OAP travel insurance, have been warned that the cheapest deal available may not necessarily be the best for them.

Halifax Travel Insurance have issued the warning to holidaymakers looking for bargains, suggesting that there are risks in focusing solely on the price of travel insurance, rather than investigating the small print for the level of cover on offer.

"We would always advise people to buy travel insurance from a trusted and regulated source," said Carol Wright, a spokesperson for the company.

"The cheapest policy is often not the best," she added.

senior travel insurance provider Rias recently urged holidaymakers to make sure they are aware of the terms of any single or multi-trip cover that they purchase.

It added that older travellers, which would include those purchasing travel insurance over 65, would need to pay close attention to any clauses regarding pre-existing medical conditions that usually must be mentioned to an insurer before travel for insurance to be valid.
