23 January 2007  Canary Islands tipped for British holidaymakers
Britons planning their summer holidays, including those with senior travel insurance, have been advised to consider the Canary Islands as a potential holiday destination.

Monarch Airlines, which operates a number of weekly flights to the region, has recommended the islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria as locations for Britons to spend their summer break.

"Tenerife is probably one of the last European paradise isles," the company reports.

"It offers lush forests, exotic fauna and flora, deserts, mountains, volcanoes, sometimes snow, incredibly beautiful coastlines and spectacular beaches," it added.

Monarch states that the appeal of Lanzarote comes from the "stark contrasts" of its scenery, while Gran Canaria offers a "unique" mix of culture, environment and climate.

Last year, OAP travel insurance provider Axa reported that 37 per cent of British holidaymakers intended on travelling to Spain, the Baleric Islands or Canary Islands during 2006.
