18 January 2007  Britons 'to head abroad' for Valentine's breaks
Increasing numbers of romantic Britons, such as those with OAP travel insurance, are planning on heading abroad with their partners for Valentine's Day.

Travel operator Flight Centre has compiled a list of a number of recommended holiday packages for Britons planning a romantic trip this February.

Included on this list are trips to Rome, Cologne, St Petersburg, New York, Oman and more.

Zoe Heywood, marketing manager at Flight Centre, said: "It seems with Valentine's falling on a Wednesday this year that people are deciding to use it as an excuse for a winter break and travelling either the weekend before or after."

She added that as February is still considered "low season" in the travel industry, holidaymakers can find good deals for breaks to Europe and beyond.

Last November, senior travel insurance provider Saga reported that nearly a fifth of British over-50s have had a holiday romance, with 22 per cent of this group marrying and staying with their holiday partner.
