Although thousands of people hit the slopes during the ski season, it is not just the younger generation who are enjoying the thrill of snowsports.

According to research conducted by Saga Travel Insurance, one in ten people over 50 already take part in an extreme or high-energy sport, including snowboarding, skiing or mountain climbing.

A further 60 per cent are keen to learn a new activity.

In response to this growing adventure trend, insurers have warned that people check they are covered with senior travel insurance.

Holidaymakers have also been warned that the new European Health Insurance card is not a substitute for travel insurance.

With costs totalling up to £10,000 for accidents that require the injured person to be airlifted and repatriated to the UK, people could be putting themselves at serious financial risk by not ensuring that they are covered before they leave.
